Today a tree was planted at the C.M. Wilson Conservation Area in memory of my Dad and all of the others who have passed away in Chatham-Kent during the past year.  I have to admit, I have had mixed emotions about this day.  I can't help feeling some anger, this shouldn't be happening.  I shouldn't be seeing my Dad's name on this list of people for whom these trees are planted for.  It's just not right, he was too young, he should still be here with us.  Why?

Once I am able to stop feeling sorry for myself, I remember that this is all part of the Plan and that my Dad is still touching many people even though he's gone.  This tree is just another way that we can remember him.  I am also very thankful for the people who were here with us today, Aunt Dina, Uncle Gus, Uncle John, Aunt Eileen, Uncle Ralph and Aunt Anne, all of you are very special to me and often are able to give me a little hug or a smile that always seems to fill that big hole that has been left.

This bagpiper started off the ceremony.

I believe there were nine trees planted in all, and each person was able to put a shovel full of dirt in the hole for the tree.  Here's Ava pushing the dirt in...

And Claire throwing some dirt into the hole.

Then after, we went back to the farm, Mike cut the grass and we stayed for dinner.

We went to visit my Mum today.  Claire and Ava are spending the weekend with her, as Mike and I are both working.  During the afternoon, Ava went a sat on this rock in the garden.  Here they are examining a leaf off one of the bushes.

Back down to the farm today to pick up the girls.  I think the little winter that we did have is over and here is Mike taking the snow tires off my Mum's car.

We were at the farm today visiting my Mum.  Her daffodils are out earlier than normal due to the recent warm temperatures, however, I don't think they enjoyed what the weather had in store today.  I'm not sure the clouds really knew what they wanted to do because we heard thunder and then it started to snow?  Not the sharpest picture, but you can see some of the snow that fell on the daffodil petals.

Mike has been working nights, so in order to try to keep the house quiet, (and because of the overlap of our shifts) I packed the girls up and we headed first to church with my mom and then to her house for the day, and for the girls overnight.  It was a beautiful spring day and we tried to spend lots of time outside soaking up the sunshine and the warm temperatures!  Boots on with their sunday dresses we headed down the lane in search of mud puddles.

So what do you think?  Looks like it's going to be a good crop of wheat this year.

I love being on the farm, it gives me peace.  And I love walking around looking at everything my Dad built and things from my childhood.  The last few months before christmas, it was nice spending so much time here and it was almost as though I re-connected with the place I called home for so many years.  Just being here has provided me with comfort when it seemed everything around me was falling apart.
